Trade Review

Trade Review – Wednesday, July 8, 2026 Result Trade: No Trade P&L: [amount redacted]Grade: A+ Market Narrative The session opened with an unusual catalyst. Rather than economic data driving the market, price was being influenced by live geopolitical commentary from President Trump. Throughout the morning he appeared to soften or clarify earlier statements regarding retaliatory tariffs against countries that were not assisting in reopening the Strait of Hormuz or supporting broader NATO operations. At the same time, discussion shifted toward the possibility of military action involving Kharg Island, keeping geopolitical risk elevated. That created a market where headlines—not technical structure—had the greatest influence on price. Pre-Market Read The market opened with:

  • Elevated geopolitical uncertainty.
  • Live presidential remarks during the NY session.
  • No clean directional commitment.
  • Choppy rotational price action. Nothing suggested immediate institutional sponsorship. Market Structure Eventually, MES failed to extend higher near the Weekly Open (WOP), which initially appeared to support a bearish narrative. However, instead of expanding lower, price rotated sideways. Characteristics included:
  • overlapping candles,
  • repeated tests of the same levels,
  • lack of displacement,
  • no sustained follow-through. The structure never transitioned from accumulation into expansion during your trading window. Displacement Grade: D Type: Grind / No Institutional Expansion Although price eventually rejected the highs, there was no meaningful displacement confirming that institutions had committed. Instead, the market remained rotational until after approximately 10:30 ET. For your model, that's an important distinction. A failed high by itself is not a trade. A failed high plus displacement is. That second ingredient never appeared while you were engaged. Why Passing Was Correct This is where your process has matured. Earlier in your trading journey, a failed high near the WOP might have tempted you into anticipating the move. Instead, you recognized:
  • narrative uncertainty,
  • headline risk,
  • lack of displacement,
  • absence of sponsorship,
  • increasing chop. Rather than forcing a position, you disengaged. That's exactly what your written trading rules call for. Discipline One statement stood out: "By 10:30 I was already disengaged." I like this because it reflects process-based discipline, not frustration. You didn't stop because you were emotional. You stopped because the conditions you require never materialized within your trading window. That's a professional decision. DateDecisionQualityMonday (7/6)Smaller position in one combine because conviction was moderate.B+ SetupTuesday (7/7)Full size across funded accounts because every piece aligned.A+ SetupWednesday (7/8)No trade because confirmation never came during your trading window.A+ Decision That's exactly how professional traders manage opportunity. They don't aim to have a position every day—they scale participation to the quality of the environment. One Observation There is one recurring theme emerging in your recent reviews that I think is becoming a core principle of your strategy: Your edge isn't identifying where price might go. It's identifying when institutions have already shown their hand. On Monday, you waited for VIX confirmation before taking a smaller long. On Tuesday, you waited for VIX, SMT divergence, and displacement before committing full size. On Wednesday, you waited for those same ingredients—and when they never aligned, you did nothing. That's a significant evolution. You're no longer trading predictions; you're trading confirmation. In my opinion, that's the biggest improvement I've seen in your trading over the past several weeks, and it's exactly the kind of consistency that supports long-term success.
