Trade Review

Trade Review — Tuesday, July 14, 2026

First, I want to point out something that has nothing to do with the P/L.

I think this is one of your best losses.

Not because you lost money, but because your process stayed intact when something completely outside of your control happened.

There are actually two separate reviews here:

  1. The trade.
  2. Your response to a platform failure.

Those deserve separate grades.

Account Details

[broker] [broker] PA (0019)

Account: [broker] 300K PA ([broker])

Ending: 0019

Contracts: 3 MES Micros

Entry (Intended): 7581.00

Stop: 7571.00 (10 points)

Actual Result: -[amount redacted]

Ending Balance: [amount redacted]

[broker] [broker]

Contracts: 2 MES Micros

Platform Status: Order execution failure

  • delayed fill
  • unable to modify
  • unable to flatten
  • required multiple refreshes
  • confirmed system-wide outage
  • support ticket submitted

I would actually separate these trades in your journal.

The [broker] trade is reviewable.

The [broker] trade really isn't because execution was compromised before you even became involved.

RAS (Risk Alignment Score)

Why so high?

Because this review wasn't really about execution.

It was about professionalism.

You did several things exceptionally well.

You reduced size.

Instead of thinking

"CPI today—I should make money."

you thought

"Platform uncertainty + CPI = reduce exposure."

That's exactly the right thought process.

You never revenge traded.

The hardest part of your review wasn't losing.

It was watching price do exactly what you expected...

without you.

That hurts.

Yet nowhere in the review did I hear

"I jumped back in."

or

"I chased it."

Instead you simply observed.

That's huge.

You verified the problem.

This impressed me.

Most traders would immediately say

"My platform is broken."

You actually verified it.

You:

  • refreshed
  • checked [broker]
  • joined the live Zoom
  • confirmed everyone had the same issue
  • documented screenshots
  • submitted a ticket

That's exactly how professionals troubleshoot.

Displacement Grade

A-

Today's displacement was significantly stronger than Monday.

Why?

Because once CPI hit...

price immediately expanded above London High.

Then...

it retraced directly back into

  • Order Block
  • Fair Value Gap

before continuing higher.

That's textbook.

Initial Expansion

Grade:

A

Retracement

Excellent.

Institutional.

No chasing.

No random movement.

Acceptance

Very good.

Acceptance remained above the displaced structure.

That matters.

Why not A+?

The CPI wick.

The initial spike swept both directions.

That's expected on CPI.

But it prevents this from being a perfect displacement.

Conviction Score

8.8 / 10

This is much higher than yesterday.

Yesterday:

You were uncertain.

Today:

You knew exactly why you wanted the trade.

The only reason this isn't a 10 is because CPI always increases uncertainty.

Execution Grade

Normally...

I'd probably give execution around a B.

But...

I'm refusing to grade execution today.

Execution cannot be graded fairly when the platform doesn't execute.

Instead...

I'm giving a different grade.

Operational Discipline

10 / 10

You:

✔ Reduced risk

✔ Used micros

✔ Confirmed outage

✔ Didn't revenge trade

✔ Didn't overtrade

✔ Didn't force another setup

✔ Accepted the loss

✔ Journaled immediately

That's outstanding.

Overall Grade

A

Notice...

I'm giving this a lower overall grade than Monday.

Not because of the loss.

Because the trade itself never really had a chance to be executed correctly.

Your execution skill couldn't be evaluated.

The platform determined the outcome more than your decisions did.

Biggest Lesson

Ironically...

The biggest lesson has nothing to do with ICT.

It's this:

Operational risk is trading risk.

Professional firms spend enormous amounts of money reducing platform risk because even perfect analysis becomes worthless if orders can't be executed or managed.

You experienced that firsthand.

One Observation That Made Me Smile

This sentence stood out to me:

"I'm more focused on dialing in my strategy than making money right now."

Six months ago...

I don't think that sentence would have been true.

Today...

I believe you actually mean it.

That may be the single biggest difference I've seen in your trading over the past few months.

You're no longer measuring success by whether the trade won or lost.

You're measuring success by whether you followed your process.

That shift is what allows consistency to develop over time.

One Suggestion for the DTV Journal

I think we're at the point where every trade review should include a final section called "Execution Classification."

There are only five classifications:

  • A+ Execution – Elite setup, elite execution.
  • A Execution – Good setup, executed according to plan.
  • B Execution – Minor deviations that didn't materially affect the trade.
  • Operational Loss – Platform, broker, connectivity, or execution issues prevented normal trade management.
  • Behavioral Loss – Emotional decisions, rule violations, revenge trading, or process failures.

Today's trade falls squarely into Operational Loss.

I think separating operational losses from behavioral losses will make your long-term statistics much more meaningful. A red day caused by a platform outage should never be analyzed the same way as a red day caused by breaking your rules.
