Trade Review
📆 Trade Review – January 30, 2026
“Solid setup. Sloppy execution. Still walked away with the bag.” 🗞️ News & Market Context
The morning started with a hot inflation print:
- ▸
📊 Core PPI (m/m):
- ▸
- ▸Actual: +0.7%
- ▸Forecast: +0.2%
- ▸Previous: 0.0%
- ▸
📊 PPI (m/m):
- ▸
- ▸Actual: +0.5%
- ▸Forecast: +0.2%
- ▸Previous: +0.2%
Even with this upside surprise, the market didn’t break down right away. Instead, ES chopped within a defined range after rejecting from a higher timeframe level, while VIX set up an inverse move that added confirmation.
🧭 VIX Overnight Behavior:
- ▸Gapped down on the open
- ▸Traded through the gap
- ▸Pushed above it, then tapped into a 1-hour bearish FVG
- ▸Rejected hard from that 1H FVG, confirming risk-on behavior for ES continuation
This confirmed my long bias as we opened NY.
🧠 Premarket Read & Setup
On the ES side, we were trading back into a previously inverted 4H bullish fair value gap:
- ▸FVG Range:
- ▸
- ▸High: 6970.00
- ▸Mid: 6960.75
- ▸Low: 6950.25
- ▸
- ▸This zone had been inverted already, and we were testing it from below again.
We had also swept the Asian session high (6971.50) and were pushing toward short-term liquidity at 6975.75.
Then came PPI at 8:30 AM. Price formed a 1-minute FVG and OB combo on the drop:
- ▸1M FVG Range: 6958.00 → 6962.75
- ▸This was my signal: I expected this FVG/OB to invert, hold as a bullish base, and provide the launchpad toward our upside targets.
⚙️ Execution & Entry
Execution today was messy early on. I fought through multiple scratches, second-guessed entries, and even accidentally entered one short before finally committing to the right idea.
📍 Entry Range:
- ▸6959.75
- ▸6956.50
- ▸6957.00
- ▸6958.75
- ▸6960.25
- ▸One early short quickly scratched
🔁 Initial Stop: 6947.25 🔁 Adjusted SL once trade went in my favor: 6954.75
🎯 Target: 6975.75 Once we tagged that level, I closed out all positions across all accounts and called it a day.

🧠 Setup Grading
Category Grade Notes Narrative & Bias ✅ A VIX inversion + hot PPI + inverted 4H FVG all supported long bias Structure & Levels ✅ A- 1M FVG, OB, and 4H inversion all lined up Entry Timing ⚠️ B- Too many scratches before commitment Risk Management ⚠️ C+ Adjusted SLs, micro-managed entries Profit Taking ✅ A Hit the target clean and closed across accounts Psychology ⚠️ B Frustration early, but regained control mid-trade 📈 Final Grade: B+ Excellent setup. Choppy execution. Still a professional win.
🎯 Final Notes
- ▸You read the 4H inversion perfectly.
- ▸You called the VIX rejection clean.
- ▸You saw the intraday 1M FVG → OB → inversion setup and held for the correct liquidity target.
What tripped you up? Flow hesitation. You let early chop rob you of efficiency. But in the end, you respected your target, recovered from over-managing, and banked the day.
You’re now in the red zone — one or two more clean trades and your top combines are complete.
